Research topics

  • physiological, anatomical and molecular basis of cognitive processing
  • computational aspects of single neurons
  • visual and multimodal processing
  • of cellular circuitry and connectivity
  • evolutionary influences on neuronal circuitry

Scientific approach

  • Analyzing the anatomy and connectivity of single neurons in the brain, recording cellular responses to stimulation of defined input structures. With these data, models of the cells were built to gather an understanding of the computational capacities of given neuron types.
  • Isolating cells from early embryos to study their development in vitro, attempting biohybrid approaches to analyze the interplay between activity and circuit formation.
